Torre del Tuono
Siamo nel territorio di Giovinazzo, borgo suggestivo che si affaccia
sull'Adriatico.
Una leggenda vuole che sia stato Perseo, figlio di Giove a
fondare "Jovis natio".
Inoltrandosi nelle campagne circostanti e più precisamente percorrendo
la SP107 , arriviamo in una contrada che prende il nome dall'edificio che
sto per presentarvi.
Una piccola arteria della strada provinciale ci conduce al
possente Maniero. Siamo arrivati a "Torre del Tuono". Un tempo
conosciuto come "torre de lo trono", perché qui il cardinale Giovanni
Vitelleschi nel 1438, accingendosi ad assalire Giovinazzo, pose il suo trono
ed il quartier generale delle truppe papali.
Un fregio posto sul portone
d'ingresso ricorda la figura dell'alto prelato.
La Torre fu completamente ricostruita dalla Famiglia Sagarriga-Visconti
nel 1663. Prese il nome di "Torre del Tuono", dopo che un fulmine il 17
febbraio del 1678 ne aveva devastato la torre. In passato qui si svolgeva una
fiera del bestiame il giorno di San Luca. Inoltre pare che qui si siano
riparati gli austriaci durante la guerra contro la Spagna per la successione
del regno di Napoli.
L'edificio, organizzato intorno ad una corte rettangolare, realizzato
interamente in conci di pietra calcarea di diverse dimensioni, si presenta
su due livelli e comprende una torre difensiva e una cappella.
La cappella è appoggiata alla struttura principale, ed è dedicata a San
Michele Arcangelo, sul cui portale murato si trova un'iscrizione in latino
posta da Michele Sagarriga: "Mihi Meis et omnibus" (per me, per i miei e
per tutti).
Il piano terra è composto da numerose stanze che testimoniano ancora
oggi l'attività agricola svolta in passato. All'interno di alcune di esse vi è
un grande camino, un antico forno e le vasche adibite a mangiatoie per gli
animali.
Al piano superiore troviamo, una grande loggia, tre ampi locali
comunicanti tra loro, una balconata con affaccio sulla corte, ed infine la
torre sormontata da un campanile a vela a fornice singolo.
Completa la proprietà un terreno agricolo di circa 1 ettaro con alberi di
ulivo e di mandorlo.
La visita a questa residenza storica, sarà una esperienza unica, ed al
tempo stesso un viaggio nel tempo e nella storia di un angolo della nostra
magnifica Puglia.

Entering the surrounding countryside and more precisely along
the SP107, we arrive in a district that takes its name from the building
I'm about to introduce you.
A small artery of the provincial road leads us to
mighty Manor. We arrived at "Torre del Tuono". Once
known as "torre de lo trono", because Cardinal Giovanni was here
Vitelleschi in 1438, preparing to attack Giovinazzo, placed his throne
and the headquarters of the papal troops.
A frieze placed on the door
entrance recalls the figure of the high prelate.
The Tower was completely rebuilt by the Sagarriga-Visconti family
in 1663. It took the name of "Torre del Tuono", after a lightning strike on the 17th
February 1678 had devastated the tower. In the past, one took place here
livestock fair on St. Luke's day. Furthermore it seems that here they are
sheltered the Austrians during the war against Spain for the succession
of the kingdom of Naples.
The building, organized around a rectangular courtyard, was completed
entirely made of limestone ashlars of different sizes, it presents itself
on two levels and includes a defensive tower and a chapel.
The chapel leans against the main structure, and is dedicated to San
Michael the Archangel, on whose walled portal there is an inscription in Latin
posted by Michele Sagarriga: "Mihi Meis et omnibus" (for me, for my e
for everyone).
The ground floor is made up of numerous rooms that still testify
today the agricultural activity carried out in the past. Inside some of them there is
a large fireplace, an ancient oven and tubs used as feeding troughs for the animals
animals.
On the upper floor we find a large loggia, three large rooms
communicating with each other, a balcony overlooking the courtyard, and finally the
tower surmounted by a single-arch bell tower.
The property includes agricultural land of approximately 1 hectare with trees
olive and almond trees.
The visit to this historic residence will be a unique experience, and al
at the same time a journey through time and into the history of a corner of ours
magnificent Puglia.
